It’s another edition of Pop Culture Friday! Summer’s just around the corner. The new season of Stranger Things is just around the corner, too. I have loved a couple of the books they’ve released recently. The first was Suspicious Minds by Gwenda Bond. It centered on Terry Ives (El’s mom) and how she came to know Dr. Brenner. It was well-written and added to the mythology of the show.
Darkness on the Edge of Town by Adam Christopher centers on Hop and his days as a homicide detective in Brooklyn. It was fascinating. I want to see his old partner, Rosario Delgado, make an appearance on the show! I made a playlist of some songs I liked from the 70s (the book is set in ‘77) and of some that are mentioned by name in the book.
“War,” Edwin Starr
“Our House,” Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
“Couldn’t Get It Right,” Climax Blues Band
“Darkness on the Edge of Town,” Bruce Springsteen
“Undercover Angel,” Alan O’Day
“Life in the Fast Lane,” Eagles
“You Don’t Mess Around With Jim,” Jim Croce
The M.A.S.H theme
“Sir Duke,” Stevie Wonder
“Don’t Leave Me This Way,” Thelma Houston
“Gonna Fly Now,” Bill Conti
